Dear Arts Enthusiast:




The Marshfield Community Learning Center is pleased to announce an exciting line-up of art classes and workshops to help you “explore your creative side!” Check out these current art opportunities:




Amateur Art Series: This exciting six-week series of art workshops designed for the amateur artist. These classes are meant for people who have little or no experience in the arts, but have a desire to learn about drawing, painting, and the creative process. Open to all ages. Cost: $30.00 (includes supplies) When: Mon., Oct 21, 28, Nov 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2002 Time: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Location: Room 15.




Movie of the Month: Enjoy a film appreciation series featuring a different classic movie each month. Each presentation includes informative handouts and study guides. Participants will engage in group discussions of each film, as well as discuss various film related topics. This series will explore various film styles and genres. Free popcorn is provided. Cost: None. When: 1st Thurs. of each month (Sept. 5, 2002-June 5, 2003) Time: 6:00-8:30 p.m. Location: Room 73 (Gold Mind Café).




Simply Writing: A simple creative writing class for beginners. Learn the basics of writing, tools for starting, and how to make your stories more creative. This class is for anyone interested in getting their stories on paper. Participants will work on a story of their own while adding and enhancing their individual creativity. Cost: None. When: 3rd Thurs. of each month (Oct. 17, 2002– May 15, 2003) Time: 6:30-8:00 p.m. Location: Room 23.




Night Writers Group: Local poets and writers are invited to join in a monthly writing group held the second Thursday of each month in the Gold Mind Café. This series is open to both experienced and beginning writers interested in sharing their work, getting feedback, and supporting each other. Each session will include a chance to share and discuss work, and monthly writing exercises will motivate and invigorate your creative spirit. Cost: None. When: 2nd Thurs. of each month (Sept. 12, 2002-May 8, 2003) Time: 7:00-8:30 p.m. Location: Room 73 (Gold Mind Café).




Single Lens Reflex 1: Do you have a single lens reflex camera? Would you like to have fun taking better pictures? This six-week series is a great place to get started. Explore the major features and controls of cameras and lenses. “Hands-on” training and outside assignments are designed to improve photographic skills. Single Lens Reflex 2 will follow in spring 2003. Cost: $54.00 (plus film developing cost) When: Tues., Nov. 5, 12, 19, 26 and Dec. 3, 10, 2002 Time: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Location: Room 24.




Basic Darkroom: In this four-week workshop explore what goes on in the black and white darkroom. Develop black and white film and learn to print black and white photographs. There will also be a session devoted to setting up your own darkroom. Cost: $60.00 (plus developing costs) When: Thurs., Nov. 7, 14, 21, and Dec. 5, 2002 Time: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Location: Room 84.




Marshfield Area Songwriter’s & Musician’s Association (MASMA): Open to experienced and beginning songwriters and musicians interested in sharing their work, getting feedback, and supporting each other in creating original music and songs. Meet every other Wednesday to inspire, create, or just jam together. Cost: None. When: Every 2nd and 4th Wed. of each month (Sept. 25, 2002-May 28, 2003) Time: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Location: Room 73 (Gold Mind Café).




The Awkward Squad Student Improvisation Troupe: The Awkward Squad is an improvisation troupe of high school students sponsored by the Marshfield Community Learning Center. It allows students to gain an understanding of improvisation and performing through a series of fun and invigorating workshops and exercises in the tradition of Comedy Sportz, Second City, and “Who’s Line Is It Anyway?” Improvisation is a great way to increase confidence, enhance public speaking and performance skills, improve communication and team-building skills, and explore creative thinking and expression. Cost: None When: Every Wed. of the month Oct. 2, 2002-June 4, 2003 Time: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Location: Room 73 (Gold Mind Café).




Intro to Improv for Adults: This series allows adults to gain an understanding of improvisation and performing through a series of fun and invigorating workshops and exercises in the tradition of Comedy Sportz, Second City, and “Who’s Line Is It Anyway?” Improvisation is a great way to increase confidence, enhance public speaking and performance skills, improve communication and team-building skills, and explore creative thinking and expression. Juggling Club: If you’re not a juggler, you could be! Learn the basics of 1, 2, and 3 ball juggling. This activity builds eye-hand coordination, patience, and concentration skills. All ages welcome; however, any elementary age children must be accompanied by an adult. Cost: None. When: Every Thurs. Sept. 5, 2002-June 10, 2003 Time: 6:00-9:00 p.m. Location: High School Commons.




Scrap & Yap: A social club for scrap booking enthusiasts. Is this something you’ve always wanted to do? Organize your pictures that have been sitting in boxes for years into a beautiful keepsake. Cost: None (materials are available for purchase or bring your own). When: Every 4th Thurs. Sept. 5, 2002-June 10, 2003 Time: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Location: Room 73 (Gold Mind Café).




Lessons in Abundance: In this three-session workshop you will experience enjoyable exercises to help you enhance and humor your spirit. We will play, create, explore, and view our own being. Cost: $12.00/3 sessions When: Tues., Oct. 15, 22, and 29, 2002 Time: 7:00-8:30 p.m. Location: Room 73 (Gold Mind Café).
